Various Happenings this Week..

Here are a few of the happenings from this week ....

They learn everywhere!

Ski Trip

The Sacred Heart high schools were treated to a day on the slopes this week!  Thank you to Ms. Wright, Mrs. Sherlock and Mme Rojo for the photos!  What a great day it was for all!

Problem Solved!

One day last term grade 5 teachers, Mrs. Ferguson and Ms. Dyer, noticed a student struggling to assemble his plastic locker system. It was neither sturdy nor easy to place in the locker.

Mrs. Ferguson and Ms. Dyer wanted to solve his problem and cover the curriculum!

With the help of Mr. Ferguson (Mrs. Ferguson's husband), Mr. Oxner (maintenance staff) and the grade five students, a design was created after they carefully measured the depth, width and height of the lockers. They discussed: simple machines, measurement, how an assembly line works, safety and teamwork.

This morning, they went to work after Mr. Ferguson reviewed the assembly line guidelines with the students.  They used sanding blocks, jigs, screwdrivers and drills. Thirty locker systems were installed by recess.  After they were installed in lockers, one boy exclaimed, "It was chaos before and now it's organized!".

What an amazing success this was with 21st Century learning techniques crossing many disciplines!  At Sacred Heart School we have amazing teachers going the many extra miles/kilometers to educate young minds and have fun while learning!  Well done and way to go!

And, there it is!

Cynthia Ghosn, Gr. 12, Receives Wish to go to the Grammy Awards!

On Wednesday, January 27th, the Children's Wish Foundation granted Cynthia Ghosn her wish to go to see the 2016 Grammy Awards with her family!

Cynthia was diagnosed at 14 years old with B-Cell Non-Hodgkin's Lymphoma.  She is a survivor and is a wonderful, intelligent and delightful young lady ever so grateful to the Children's Wish Foundation's award.

Although Cynthia already knew that she was granted her wish to see the Grammys, she was not aware of the special surprise the Foundation revealed yesterday and that was to attend the Grammy after-party.  She will also get to walk on the red carpet!

Sacred Heart is very proud of Cynthia and all she has accomplished.  We thank her and her family for having her wish granted here at Sacred Heart with her friends and teachers.

Cynthia, we wish you all the very best at the Grammys!
