Sacred Heart Students Win Entrepreneurship Top Prize!

Congratulations to Alex Gillis and Aristides Milios who recently attended the Starting Point Student Entrepreneurship Conference at Saint Mary’s University hosted by the Sobey School of Business. The conference aims to raise awareness of the issues faced by post-secondary students who run their own business while still in school, and to provide them with the specific knowledge, access to networks, and business advice they need to grow their businesses and to become successful entrepreneurs. Alex and Aristides pitched their business idea to the assembled experts and walked away with the top prize of $1,000.

African Dance

The Grade 1-5 attended a dance and drumming session hosted by the Maritime Centre for African Dance.  Our host, Mufaro, talked about African culture, traditions and modern day Africa and taught the students both traditional and modern dances.

Physics Innovation Presentations

Sacred Heart High School Physics 11 and 12 classes presented their technology innovation projects this week. Their task was to take an existing technology and research how it works. Then they were challenged to make a change to the design or find a new use. They had to make a leap of imagination and take the original technology and create their own innovation. In the presentation, they were to create a model of their prototype out of easy to obtain materials and use that to sell their innovation to the SHSH Dragons Den.

Physics 11 Dragon Den

Shannon with her Glovlies. Shannon took super absorbent materials designed by NASA and used them as a way to dry your hair quickly on those mornings you are in a hurry.

Kinza with a new design on a horse saddle pad. Kinza took memory foam and made a more comfortable ride for the horse and rider.

Katelyn made a LEGO prototype of a Braille reader tablet. Her innovation would use electroactive materials to make the raised bumps on the reader.

Sophie was inspired by our Water Walk this fall. She designed a water purifier incorporated into a backpack.

Anya fabricated a scaled version of an elevator powered by people.
